At the Fiumicino airport there are three rail connections available
- Leonardo Express direct Rome Termini - Fiumicino Airport and vice versa.
- Fr1 Line (Orte - Fara Sabina - Rome Tiburtina - Fiumicino Airport and vice versa, with intermediate stops).
For information on accessibility of the trains, timetables and on the purchase of tickets for rail connections with the Fiumicino Airport visit the specific page of Trenitalia's website
Fiumicino Airport has an integrated train/plane assistance service, which is completely free, for passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility.
The initiative is the result of a collaboration agreement signed between ADR Assistance, the Aeroporti di Roma Group company dedicated to assistance for passengers with reduced mobility, and RFI, the railway infrastructure management company, which aims to provide continuity in airport transfer assistance from train to plane and vice versa.
Conditions for providing the assistance service to persons with reduced mobility (PRM) between the airport and Fiumicino Aeroporto railway station
Departing passengers who use the service are welcomed by ADR Assistance operators directly at the train station and are accompanied in all phases of journey preparation, including boarding the plane.
For those arriving at Fiumicino, this assistance includes being picked up directly from the plane during disembarkation, accompanied to baggage reclaim and then onwards to the railway station. If necessary, passengers are supported during any railway ticket purchases and arrangements on board the train.
All information about reserving the integrated assistance service can be found on the ADR Assistance and RFI websites.
To make the most of the integrated train/plane service, please read the following instructions:
Reserving the PRM “train/plane” service
The service can be reserved directly at the RFI “Sale Blu” (information offices); via telephone by phoning +39 800.90.60.60 (free from Italian landlines) or the national normal rate number +39 02.32.32.32 from 06:45 to 21:30; by using the Sala Blu Online web application; or by writing an e-mail to the address SalaBlu.ROMA@rfi.it.
The notice times to request the assistance service vary from 1 to 24 hours, depending on the chosen contact method and based on the general conditions for requesting PRM assistance from RFI, which are published on the RFI website under the section For persons with disability.
At the time of requesting, it is necessary to specify if you wish to use the integrated train-plane assistance service and inform RFI of the alphanumerical code of the arrival/departure flight indicated on your flight booking (e.g. Alitalia flight AZ354 departing for Nice at 16:30; Easyjet flight EZY6186 arriving from Bristol at 17:00).
Reserving the integrated train-plane assistance service at an RFI Sala Blu is not a substitute for a request to the airline company, which must be made at the time of purchasing the airline ticket.
Considering transfer times between the two journeys
To avoid unnecessary stress or worry, please consider transfer times:
when arriving by train to Fiumicino, it is important to arrive at least 2 hours before departure for Domestic/Schengen flights and 3 hours before departure for non-Schengen flights
when arriving by plane to Fiumicino, it is necessary to consider journey times between the station and the airport: at least 1.5 hours so that you can reach the station 30 minutes before the train of your onward journey departs
The PRM “train/plane” assistance service includes the transport of one piece of baggage. The airport operator can accompany passengers with one piece of baggage weighing around 12 kg. If you are travelling alone and bringing heavy or oversized baggage, this must be specified at the time of reservation so that the need for a second operator can be noted.
In the following railway stations: Roma Termini, Milano Centrale, Venezia, Bologna Centrale, Firenze SMN and Napoli Centrale, the paid baggage porterage service can be reserved for excess baggage.
The service is provided by Kipoint and is available every day from 09:00 to 19:00 and can be reserved by phoning the Kipoint Call Center: +39 220.127.116.11.
The cost of phoning the call center and the baggage porterage service are published on the Kipoint website.
Please note: what to do if you have not reserved the assistance service
When arriving by train to the Fiumicino Airport station, you will not find an operator waiting for you. Nevertheless, it will still be possible to use the service by contacting ADR Assistance using the interactive call kiosks at the railway station and waiting for staff to arrive. We will come to collect you but the waiting times will be inevitably longer.
When arriving by plane to Fiumicino
ADR Assistance and RFI will still organise your train journey, consistent with the notice times required by the destination station chosen by you.
