The assistance service for persons with disabilities and reduced mobility (PRM) between the airport and the train station for Fiumicino Airport

At Fiumicino Airport, there is an integrated train/plane assistance service, entirely free of charge, for passengers with disabilities and reduced mobility.

This initiative was created as the result of a collaboration agreement signed between ADR Assistance, the Aeroporti di Roma company dedicated to the assistance of PRMs and RFI, the company which manages the railway infrastructure, with the aim of providing continuity of assistance to PRMs in transit from the train to plane and vice versa.

The passengers concerned, when departing by plane, are welcomed by ADR Assistance operators directly at Fiumicino Airport train station and accompanied to the check-in desks, to then proceed through the security checks and to their seat on board the plane.

Travellers arriving by plane are met as soon as they disembark and accompanied to the baggage claim area and finally on to the train station, given help should they need to purchase a train ticket and, if necessary, in getting onto the train and provided with the required assistance.

All the information regarding booking the integrated assistance service is present on both the ADR Assistance and the RFI websites

In order to make best use of the integrated train/plane service, we recommend that you follow the instructions below.

Book the “train/plane” PRM service

You can book the service directly from the RFI Sale Blu or by phone, calling - between 6:45am and 9:30pm - the freephone number 800.90.60.60 (only from a landline), or the national number at the usual rate,, or by using the SalaBlu Online web application, or by emailing SalaBlu.ROMA@rfi.it.

The advance notice required to request the assistance service can vary from 1 to 24 hours, depending on the method of communication chosen, according to the general conditions for requesting PRM assistance from RFI, published on the RFI website under the Station Accessibility section.

When making the request, you must specify that you wish to make use of the integrated train-plane assistance service and provide RFI with the alphanumeric code of the flight you are taking/arriving on, which is shown on your flight booking (e.g. Alitalia flight to Nice at 16:30 AZ354; Easyjet flight arriving from Bristol at 17:00 EZY6186)

Booking the integrated train-plane assistance service through the RFI Sale Blu does not replace the request for assistance from the airline, which must be presented when purchasing the plane ticket.

Consider the transit time between the two journeys

To avoid unnecessary stress or worry, we recommend taking into account the following interchange times:

  • when arriving at Fiumicino by train you should plan to arrive at least 2 hours before departure for domestic/Schengen flights and 3 hours before departure for non-Schengen flights.
  • when arriving at Fiumicino by plane you should plan for at least 1.5 hours in order to reach the station 30 minutes before the train you plan to continue your journey on departs.

Consider your luggage

The “train/plane” PRM assistance service provides for the transportation of one single piece of luggage. The airport operator is capable of accompanying a PRM with one piece of luggage of up to around 12kg. If the PRM is travelling alone and bringing with them a piece of luggage heavier than 12kg or of an unusual size, this must be mentioned in the booking so as to alert the staff to the need for a second operator.

In the following railway stations: Roma Termini, Milano Centrale, Venezia, Bologna Centrale, Firenze SMN and Napoli Centrale, it is possible to book the luggage portering service for excess baggage for a fee.

The service is operated by Kipoint and is active every day from 9:00am to 7:00pm, and can be booked by calling the Kipoint call centre:

The costs of the call to the call centre and the luggage portering service are listed on the Kipoint website.

Please note: if you have not booked the train-plane assistance service for Fiumicino Airport train station, you will not find an operator waiting for you.

You will therefore have to contact ADR using the PRM contact point at the train station and wait for the staff to arrive; we will come to collect you anyway, but the waiting times will necessarily be longer.

Arriving by plane at Fiumicino

ADR and RFI will organise your train journey, according to the notice times required by the destination station you have chosen in advance.
